Mantis Music for Mac and iPhone · Last updated 20 October 2026
Short version: Mantis Music doesn't collect anything about you. There's no account, no tracking, no analytics and no ads. We never receive your music, your listening or your settings.
Your music and settings
Your songs, covers, lyrics and site settings are files in a folder you choose, usually in your own iCloud Drive, so they sync between your devices through Apple's iCloud. Mantis never copies them anywhere else, except when you publish (below).
Passwords and keys (the key Mantis uses to upload your site, and any sign-in tokens) are kept in your iCloud Keychain, never in your folder and never on your website.
Listening
When you follow an artist, Mantis downloads their songs and details straight from that artist's own website, as a web browser would. That website's host sees an ordinary request, as for any page you visit. Mantis keeps the list of artists you follow on your device.
Publishing
When you publish, Mantis uploads your site to the server you set up, using your own upload key. Before anything is sent, Mantis checks that no private settings, keys or original high-resolution files are included.
Optional services you choose to use
- Fediverse (Mastodon) sign-in, to comment on and like songs: Mantis talks to the server you sign in to, and your comments are posted there.
- Posting your releases to Mastodon, if you set it up: your new songs are posted to your account.
- Finding streaming links on the Mac: song titles are searched on Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal and Deezer.
- Timing lyrics: done on your device by Apple's speech recognition, or by a transcription service you name in your site settings.
Each of these happens only when you turn it on, and only with the service you picked.
Children
Mantis Music collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
